Welcome… to Markley Bros. Entertainment. This is a wonderous – nay, magical – land, where all of your wildest dreams will come true.

By that, of course, I mean that this is a web site. A web site where we will make lots of money on tasteful adversiting so that all of my wildest dreams can come true. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the funny, because my brothers and I are just crankin' it out.

Nestled within these shimmering pages you will find Contradictionary, an awesome web comic, and The Malex Minute, a super-duper web audio show. We're on hiatus at this very moment, but not to worry! There are four years of archives for you to browse through. And, we're planning on coming back in the summer with a whole host of new delights!

This web site is the product of thousands of sleepless nights, and we're quite proud of it. But we need your help to report bugs and problems. After all, no matter how many problems we solve, we'll always have users – like you – to create more. You see, we're pretty sure this whole page is gonna go up like the Hindenburg as soon as you touch it with your grubby, incompetent hands. So–

Hey! You can't talk to our audience like that!

What? I can do anything I want.

Look, if you insult them they'll go away.

Who died and made you president of I-don't-care? Aren't you supposed to be off animating something? Animate, boy, before I set the weasels of compliance on you!

So, anyway, please check below for more information about the new site. And stick around! This is going to be fun.

So...

As promised above, some information about the new MarkleyBros.com. (And sorry for that arrogant cuss in the video… We're all… very sorry.)

First, all of the Malex Minute and Contradictionary archives have been posted here, at a higher quality than ever! You'll even find never-before-published extras hidden around, so look around and see what you find!

Second, your MalexMedia.Net username will work here! I am seeing people having trouble in the logs. If you have a working username/password on MalexMedia.Net, it should work here. If it does not work here, that is a bug, and we would like to know about it.

Third, the visual design of the site is not finalized. We are using this theme temporarily, but we are planning on replacing it with a custom theme before we come out of BETA and go live.

Finally, this new site is in BETA right now, so please help us out by reporting any problems you happen to find.

Also, please post any questions you have down below and we'll do our best to help out. :)

New Site Looks Great

I am happy to be the first to congratulate the Markley Brothers on their new site! (Yes, I really do get up this early every weekday) It looks great and I am looking forward to future videos as well as old favorites.

Everything appears to be running smoothly. :)

Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.

Awesome!

Thanks, Calla! We're definitely hoping it runs smoothly for the rest of you too, so if in any way it doesn't, be sure to say something! ;)

Absolutely. Despite the abusive, arrogant nature of that guy in the video (who let that guy in here anyway?) we definitely want to make sure we address everyone's concerns.

Feedback! We thrive on feedback!

Yay!

"After all, no matter how many problems we solve, we'll always have users – like you – to create more."

I burst out laughing at that part, which isn't something I normally do... terrific :)

I'm liking the new site so far! Somewhat minimalistic, but I like it that way... I'm getting almost Apple-like vibes from it. Haven't noticed any bugs so far, but I'll be sure to complain loudly and abusively if I see anything. Good to know you put so much trust in us faithful users =D

I'm looking forward to more information about what you have planned after the hiatus!

Regarding: Yay!

I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. :) I certainly hope to take full advantage of this new technology to post random videos a lot more often.

Minimalism is definitely key to the design of the new sites. We want the purpose of the site to be obvious and unclouded by "extras" that might confuse new visitors.

The theme / "visual design" of the site is still in flux for now, (as you can see, we changed it again this morning, and comments are still showing up funny) but we will have a custom theme built and finalized before the site comes out of BETA.

Arrogant abuse

Very nice. I like the quality of the video. Now & then I get one of those pink or red squares in the midst of the picture somewhere. I've seen them in some of the videos that Aisling has posted on YouTube. I don't know what causes them or if you can fix it. For the most part, they're not too distracting unless they happen to show up in the spot that your eye is drawn to.

I swear I didn't do anything to cause this problem.

We should take our comfort from God's word, not from the circumstances of our lives.

Hehe… you're describing a ‘feature’ of the old Linux flash player. It doesn't show up if you're using newer version, or if you're using a different platform. (Like Windows or Mac.)

Alex Markley

“Arrogance is bliss! Or is that ignorance? Either way, I win!”

Sweet!

Is very awesome! I like both themes that you've used here so far... today... The only complaint I have is that the avatars are gone. I now have a very hard time telling who said what on the comments. If I may ask, why are they gone? Anyway, regarding the new... thing as a whole: Love it!

Thanks for your compliments, Mad Hatter! That's good to hear. :)

This is actually a technical decision above all else. After the Chat Room debacle, I really went back to the drawing board on the performance end of things. Today, the site is running on a completely redesigned architecture, which is optimized for clustering. (Although we're not clustering currently.)

The upshot of this is that – once we start clustering between multiple app/web servers – we won't be able to simply support synchronizing user-uploaded files between multiple app/web nodes in the cluster.

I have to admit, it was a hard decision to make, and it does change the feel of the site more than some of the other changes we've made. However, I do hope that everyone can adjust with us.

Let me know what you think…

Woo

It's quite a change but I'm still excited! I have to say the lack of avatars confused me, but I'm sure I can get used to it if it's permanent (As soon as I get used to it you'll change it won't you?) Other than that my only complaint is a lack of Foppy ;)

I'd rather waltz than just walk through the forest- Owl City

My dear, I'd wager you have vastly more influence over him than I do. Please feel free to compel him to grace us with his presence. :)

We do try. :)

You can even download the video (expand the "media downloads" section at the bottom) and import it right into iTunes for viewing on any of your favorite Apple products.

I even got somebody with an iPad to test it, and it apparently works very well there as well.

Still more compatibility work to be done (I'm aware of the front page hover pane issue on iPhone) but we're getting there…

Alex Markley

“Arrogance is bliss! Or is that ignorance? Either way, I win!”

Himself's picture

Actually, I like the way the hovering is now...

At least the way it works in my iPhone browser (I'm not using iPhone Safari), you touch it once and it brings up the hovering window, then the second touch goes to the page. It's an extra tap, but not a big deal for me at least.

Splicky Missions?

Are the splicky missions just gone now?

Yeah, I think the extra tap is okay. I just would prefer for it to be a little less wonky. In particular, I'm hoping to make the pop-up hover pane itself clickable, so it's a little easier to ultimately get where you want to go.

The Geek said:

Yes, sorry. Lots of old media is now gone, including Malex and Icepunk, my road trip stuff, and lots and lots of old music.

We realize this is not going to be a popular move, but we made the decision based on which products we felt were most likely to have a mass appeal and allow us to make a profit.

The fact remains that it's extremely expensive (in both money and time) to run these sites, and if we don't start making some money it's all going to be “just gone”.

So, to anybody reading this, if you enjoy any of the work we're doing, please stay tuned for details about how you can help get the word out so we can turn this money pit into a valuable investment.

Alex Markley

“Arrogance is bliss! Or is that ignorance? Either way, I win!”

How about?

If we can't have avatars, how about colors? Each user could pick a color of their own.

Also, is it possible to put a line or something between the text of the comment and the sig. I've been getting confused.

I'm aware of problems with comment display in the current theme. We'll be addressing that with our custom theme.

As for the colors… I don't think so. :)

Malex Minute?

Is there any way to magically download all the Malex Minutes as one folder?

Alex's picture

Nope

The Geek said:

Nope. :)

Our goal is to encourage people to visit and spend time on the site. Hopefully the new user interface is pleasant enough to use that we're not driving people away any more.

If we don't have users paging through the site, we're losing money. That's all there is to it.

That said, if there is enough demand for some kind of complete "early years" Malex Minute archive, I would be all for producing and selling such a beast.

I've dropped in a stop-gap solution to this problem. Refresh the page and see if that's not an improvement.

So amazing! XD

This is hilarious, guys! I seriously can't wait to see more! And I haven't seen any problems beyond the fact that the "latest" button when you are looking at various entertainment is blurry. :) Very random, but funny anyway. :D Keep up the awesome work, guys. And hang in there! ^.^
